The Abolition of the Right to Buy and Associated Rights (Wales) Act 2018 gained Royal Assent on 24 January.

The Abolition of the Right to Buy and Associated Rights (Wales) Act 2018 gained Royal Assent on 24 January.

The provisions in the Act mean abolition of the rights will come into force on 26 January 2019.

There is an exception to the abolition date, as in order to encourage investment and safeguard new homes, the rights will end for homes that are new to the social housing stock, and therefore have no existing tenants, two months after Royal Assent on 24 March 2018.

Information for Tenants will be issued by the Welsh Government to all social landlords within a month of Royal Assent and landlords will then have a further month to provide the information to tenants.
