Meeting the evolving needs of Tenants in challenging times

Webinar (with optional follow-on networking & discussion session)

Wednesday, 15th May 2024:  10.00am – 12:15pm

The effects of a combined cost of living and housing crisis, increasing cuts to public support services and changes in wider society means social landlords need to ensure their services and organisational culture, are responding to the changing needs of all tenants.

In addition to decent healthy homes all tenants need fair and reasonable landlord services which recognise individual circumstances, especially when specific needs are present. We must remember that ‘general needs’ doesn’t always mean no needs.

So, how can social landlords across Wales rise to the challenge and meet the evolving needs of their tenants and the communities they serve?

Join us to hear from a range of expert speakers from across the UK, covering a range of different thoughts and solutions including:

  • Creating the right culture and behaviours to respond effectively without stigma or marginalisation.
  • Adapting services to have more ‘flex’ to focus on individual circumstances.
  • Building Community Resilience
  • Inclusive access to services to ensure no tenants go unsupported.

Speakers include:

Zoe Miller - Compliance and Systemic Investigations Manager. Housing Ombudsman (England)

Sharing the key findings of their Spotlight report on attitudes, rights and respect, including how social landlords need to create human-centric policies, adapt to meet the needs of all their residents and make sure the most vulnerable residents are not left behind.

Adam Carter and Louise Baxter - Consumer Friend

Sharing thoughts and ideas on housing and ‘Consumer vulnerability’, examining situations in which a tenants may be unable to engage fairly and effectively in a landlord service and as a result, are at a particularly high risk of not receiving the support and services they need.

Liz Grieve, Head of Housing & Communities Service - Denbighshire County Council

With ongoing social and economic pressures which are going to impact tenants, and the shrinking of public sector services, is now the time for social housing providers to adopt a greater Community Resilience approach to help build sustainable and resilient communities?

Matt Dicks, Director - Chartered Institute of Housing Cymru

Matt will provide some context for Wales, including the importance of the role of the housing officer/manager, and the support which may be needed to ensure services for tenants are the best they can be.

Following the webinar there will be an optional 30 mins networking & discussion session which you can join, to share thoughts and practice with other delegates from across Wales.
