End Sex for Rent Campaign Launch 

Today I attended the End Sex for Rent Campaign Launch, and I have to say, I was absolutely horrified. Rogue landlords are offering both female and male tenants accommodation with free bills in exchange for sexual favours.  A survey found that over the last 5 years, 6,900 women and 4,600 men in Wales had been asked for sex to cover their rent. This is a real issue; it isn’t something that is only happening in the big cities, it is happening everywhere. These landlords are criminals and they are targeting some of the most vulnerable individuals who are desperately in need of a place to stay.

The sad reality in much of this is the indisputable link to the lack of affordable housing. Not to forget the freeze on Local Housing Allowance and how this is putting people at risk every day.

This is a time that where working together across sectors to raise awareness and support these victims couldn’t be any more crucial.
