Nominations for TPAS Cymru Management Board
As Chair of TPAS Cymru I am writing to let you know the process for this year’s elections to the Board and explain some changes that will happen to our Governance structure over the next 12 months.
TPAS Cymru are continually listening to its members and supporters in improving our work to ensure Wales is the best place for tenant participation. To this end, the TPAS Cymru Board is in the process of reviewing its structure and governance, including the recruitment process and composition of the Board. I am currently working with the Board to develop the best structure to ensure TPAS Cymru has the right direction to meet the challenges faced by tenants and landlords going forward. Early in the new year, TPAS Cymru will be consulting stakeholders for their input before holding a special meeting for members to seek their approval.
In the meantime, we have our existing constitution and procedures to follow. Under the current arrangements, certain board members must automatically stand down and should they wish, stand again (if eligible). This means we have the following vacancies under our current structure:
· 3 vacancies for officers of registered housing associations (which are members of TPAS Cymru)
· 2 vacancies for officers of local authorities (which are members of TPAS Cymru)
· 1 vacancy for officers of supported housing organisations (which are members of TPAS Cymru)
· 2 vacancies for tenant & resident associations from a local authority/housing association (which are members of TPAS Cymru).
However, I felt it was important to be clear with potential candidates that should they be successful, the nature of the Board’s work will have a strong Governance focus for the next 12 months. Also, under consideration is a reduction in the numbers of Board Members and changes to the length of term that members remain on the Board. This could mean that within 12 months, all Board Member positions will be reviewed through an agreed process. To help us get it right, we would particularly welcome applications from people who have experience of Governance, either through their role, through being on a Board or through governing a tenant or community group.
The timescales for this year’s election process are as follows:
Completed nomination forms must be received by TPAS Cymru by no later than Friday 13th October.
After this date, if an election is required, appropriate ballot papers will be issued to the relevant member category. The ballot papers must then be returned to TPAS Cymru by Friday 10th of November.
Elections to the Management Board are completed at the TPAS Cymru AGM, which will be held on Tuesday 14th November at 5pm at the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells
If you would like to nominate a candidate from your organisation for election to the management board, you will need to complete a Nomination Form which is available from [email protected]
Before you do that, we would strongly recommend that you have a chat with our Director, David Wilton on 02920 237303 or via email [email protected] in order that he can explain in more detail the governance review and the likely consequences for you as a prospective Board Member.
