Tribute to retiring Chair Bill Hunt

TPAS Cymru would like to pay tribute to Bill Hunt who has recently stepped down as Chair of TPAS Cymru after 3 years in the role.

As a tenant of Cartrefi Conwy he came to prominence for his passion and commitment to tenant voice and engagement.  He was elected to the Board of TPAS Cymru in 2015

During his 8 years of service on the TPAS Cymru board, Bill was an active part of reforming our governance and also served as Vice Chair.  He was elected Chair within the first 2 weeks of the pandemic lockdown, which was certainly a challenging period for everyone including TPAS Cymru. His charm and calm-ness really helped guide the board through those tough times.

David Wilton, Chief Executive of TPAS Cymru lead tributes:

"I am very grateful to Bill for his solid and unwavering commitment to TPAS Cymru. I joined the organisation around the same time, and he was a vocal advocate of modernisation and reform of our governance. He worked tirelessly to support and advocate for tenants.

On a personal level, I have thoroughly enjoyed working together with him. He has boundless energy and a sharp sense of humour, and I have been so grateful for his support.

Having a tenant as Chair of this tenant lead organisation has been so important as TPAS Cymru evolved during the pandemic looked to new ways of working and engaging. Given Bill’s commitment to making social housing better, I was not surprised so see that he was recently listed as no.42 in the Future Generations Commissioner’s Changemaker 100"

Vice Chair Emma Parcel (POBL tenant) added:

"During my time as a board member and as Vice Chair, Bill has been a great mentor and has supported me within my role. Bill has always been a great ambassador for TPAS Cymru bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge of the sector during his time on the board and will be missed greatly.

On behalf of the TPAS board we would like to extend our gratitude and wish Bill all the best for the future".

Bill will remain active in housing issues and tenant voice and continue to serve as Vice-Cahir of the Board of Cartrefi Conwy and Welsh Government’s Regulatory Board for Wales.
