The Welsh Government’s Rent and Service Charge Standard 2026–2036 requires social landlords to demonstrate that meaningful tenant involvement is at the heart of rent-setting decisions

Rent Setting & Tenant Involvement: meeting and evidencing expectations

Thursday, 9th July 2025: 11am-12:30pm

The Welsh Government’s Rent and Service Charge Standard 2026–2036 requires social landlords to demonstrate that meaningful tenant involvement is at the heart of rent-setting decisions.

Join us for this new workshop, where we will explore practical approaches, and ideas to help your organisation develop a framework for effective tenant engagement in rent-setting and provide evidence of that engagement.

The session will support you to define the scope and objectives of your engagement and consultation activities, ensuring tenants have genuine opportunities to shape and influence rent-setting discussions and decisions.

It will also help your organisation meet the Standard’s compliance requirements and demonstrate how tenant views have informed outcomes.

What the session will cover
  • An overview of the tenant involvement requirements within the Rent and Service Charge Standard, including what organisations need to demonstrate through the Annual Monitoring Return and relevant Regulatory Standards.
  • Exploring which aspects of the rent-setting process tenants should be involved in and why.
  • Identifying the scope of your engagement activities and the level of influence tenants can have on decisions.
  • Understanding what needs to be in place to support effective and meaningful tenant involvement in rent setting.
  • Demonstrating how to evidence tenant engagement, consultation and feedback, and show how tenant views have informed and influenced rent-setting processes and decisions

Please note – this session will primarily  focus on rents but is also relevant to tenant involvement in service charges.
