Tenant Voice Cymru Forum: Hazards

You may be familiar with the tragic incident of Awaab Ishaak, a 2-year-old boy who lived in social housing in England, who died as a direct result of the damp and mould in the home. England have since implemented ‘Awwab’s Law’, placing a responsibility on all social landlords to take complaints about all emergency hazards and any significant damp and mould concerns, seriously and respond.

Did you know, on April 1^st, a new rule as part of the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) is coming into place for social housing tenants- placing a requirement on landlords to respond to damp, mould and other hazards, with set timescales? TPAS Cymru hosted multiple forums last year with tenants, but, with the deadline around the corner- how are tenants having this rule communicated to them?

• What communication have you seen from your landlord or Welsh Government about it?
• How would you, as a tenant, like for this rule to be communicated to you and other tenants?

Join us for a Tenants Voice Cymru Forum, a safe, inclusive space for tenants to come and speak their minds about issues which matter most to them. Your host and chair, Olivia Browne (TPAS Cymru Policy & Engagement Officer) will provide a brief outline of the change in policy, then it’s over to you to share your thoughts on the topics above.
