What We Learned from Testing AI Translation Tools for Inclusive Housing Communication

Following our recent online session, we are sharing the full report from our work into how AI can support translation and inclusive communication.

With support from Cardiff University, through its HIAA project, Ventilation Matters: Framework to Create Mould-Free, Healthier Homes for Housing Associations and the Third Sector.

We tested tools including Google Translate, Bing Translator, ChatGPT, Canva and HeyGen across Arabic, Hindi, Polish, Somali, Ukrainian, Urdu, Welsh and Yoruba. The research explored document translation, dubbed videos, AI avatars and whether AI could support multilingual repair reporting.

The findings show that AI has real potential to help organisations communicate in more languages, but accuracy, cultural context, tone and human review remain essential, particularly for important or sensitive information.
