Kindly sponsored by Planning Aid Wales
As we move into another year, Placemaking is still something we should be thinking about and a practice we should be implementing. There are growing expectations within the sector to consider tenant and community views when developing new homes and spaces. Along with this, more organisations are signing the Placemaking Charter, the concept of Placemaking continues to grow in Welsh housing.
Following a sell-out 2023 conference, Join us at our 2nd Annual Placemaking with People conference to get the latest information about Placemaking in Wales and hear from our expert speakers. Don't miss your chance to hear how we can ensure people and communities are at the heart of the process, how we can work to create places that are vibrant and where people across Wales can develop and feel a sense of belonging.
The way places are planned, designed, developed, and managed has the potential to positively shape where and how people live, work, socialise, move about and engage. Placemaking means to engage with people to ensure our communities contribute positively to creating or enhancing lives, within which people, communities, businesses, and nature can thrive.
Placemaking gives a name to something so many of us in Housing are already doing. We are looking at our Planning and design of homes and community spaces with a holistic approach with the focus on a positive outcome and lived experience.
This one-day conference will be held via Zoom. It will allow us to dive deeper into this topic as a housing community and explore where we could go in the future.
During this engaging and insightful conference, we will explore some key areas including:
-
How we can ensure our communities positively influence and form a part of how places and spaces are designed, programmed and managed.
-
How Placemaking can support healthy equity, accessibility, fight social isolation and advance sustainability and resilience.
The schedule will include a range of inspiring speakers and practical case studies from communities, the housing sector and beyond, designed to spark ideas and conversations.
Speakers include:
Mark Jones, Planning Engagement Officer, Planning Aid Wales
Mark is responsible for Planning Aid Wales' planning services and works to support planners and developers to engage more creatively with their communities.
James Brown, Managing Director, The Urbanists
James has over 25 years of experience in urban design, planning and landscape architecture with a proven track record of leading complex and innovative development, Placemaking and regeneration projects in various settings and contexts. Hamish Munro, Placemaking Programme Manager, Caerphilly County Borough Council
