Being a Board Member: An Introduction - all you need to know

Have you ever wondered what it really means to be a Housing Association Board Member? Or perhaps you’ve considered becoming a Board Member but weren’t sure where to begin?

This interactive and welcoming workshop is designed especially for tenants, residents and staff who want to understand what being a Board Member really involves. Whether you're curious about the role, considering applying, or simply want to build your knowledge, this session will give you the clarity and confidence to take the next step.

Board Members play a vital role in shaping the future of housing associations, influencing decisions, setting direction and ensuring strong governance. This session will help you understand:

• What housing associations do and how they are structured
• The role and responsibilities of the Board
• What being a Board Member really involves (and what it doesn’t!)
• The valuable contribution tenants bring to Boards
• Tenants on boards - dispelling some myths
• The skills, standards and expectations of Board Members
• The key challenges currently facing housing associations and Boards in Wales
• Practical next steps if you’re thinking about Board membership

We’ll also create space for questions and discussion in a supportive environment.

• Tenants and residents interested in becoming Board Members
• Staff supporting governance and tenant engagement
• Existing Tenant Board Members who would like a refresher
• Anyone who wants a clearer understanding of how Boards work

No previous experience is needed, just an interest in learning more.

• This is an online interactive training workshop via Zoom

• The delegate rate is for one person not a group booking – each attendee needs to register individually.

• Written confirmation by email is required for all cancellations.  Bookings cancelled before the cancellation date will be refunded. No refunds will be processed after this date.
• Registered delegates who do not attend the event will be liable for payment in full unless written communication is received by the cancellation date.
• If you are unable to attend, you can send a substitute delegate at no extra cost.  All substitute delegates must be notified to [email protected].If substitute changes are made after the cancellation date, we cannot guarantee we will be able to meet any specific needs, e.g. dietary.
