TPAS Cymru and Samaritans Cymru are proud to launch the first-ever suicide risk prevention programme tailored for the housing sector in Wales. This will proactive programme includes a series of free webinars, 3 for tenants and 3 for professionals, aimed to give cross-sector confidence and tools to prevent suicide through engagement. You will be supported by us to help build the blocks for stronger suicide prevention in Welsh housing.
Who is it for:
-
Tenant and Social Housing professionals - leaders, maintenance & trades, housing officers, tenant support, resident engagement and related roles.
Why we’re doing this:
-
In 2024, Wales recorded 436 suicides - a suicide rate of 15.7 per 100,000.
-
Workers in manual or trade based occupations - many of whom serve social housing - face significantly elevated suicide risk.
-
Social housing tenants and staff often live and work in communities under social and economic pressure - increasing vulnerability and underlining the urgent need for awareness and prevention.
What we’ll cover:
-
The latest data for Wales: suicide risk levels, trends and the link to housing and trade related occupations
-
The role of awareness and listening: how simple, trained listening and support can identify and help people who may be struggling
-
Practical steps organisations can take: suicide prevention and active listening training, peer support, early intervention and embedding supportive practices across housing associations, maintenance teams, tenant engagement and community services
What you’ll gain:
-
A clear understanding of suicide risk in the housing sector
-
Practical awareness and basic listening tools to support people in crisis or at risk
