How can listening differently lead to healthier, stronger communities?
Join Merthyr Valleys Homes and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board for a Lunch & Learn exploring the learning from the 3 Communities Project across Trelewis, Penrhys and Blackmill. This will feature a deeper case study on the work in Trelewis.
This session will share how housing associations and health partners worked alongside residents using strength-based and appreciative approaches to uncover what matters most to local people. Rather than starting with problems to fix, the project started with conversations - listening to people's stories, aspirations, talents and connections within their communities.
Together we'll explore:
-
What happens when organisations move from "doing to" people, to "doing with" them.
-
The role of tenant participation in building community capacity and social connections.
-
Practical examples of how small conversations led to significant change in local neighbourhoods.
-
The importance of community spaces, local leadership and relationships in supporting wellbeing.
-
What housing organisations can learn about creating conditions for communities to thrive.
This brings to life a simple but powerful lesson: when people are given the opportunity to share what they care about, contribute their skills and shape change in their neighbourhoods, positive outcomes emerge in ways that institutions often cannot predict or plan.
This session will be relevant to tenant participation practitioners, housing professionals, community development workers and anyone interested in resident-led approaches to change.
Come along to hear the stories, the learning, and the ripples of change that continue to spread across communities in Cwm Taf Morgannwg.
